Governor Baker Appoints Two New Members to MGCC's Board of Directors

BOSTON – July 9, 2019Massachusetts Growth Capital Corporation (MGCC) announces the appointment of two new members to the organization’s Board of Directors by Governor Charlie Baker.  Joining the Board are Rafael Diaz-Granados, an accomplished Fortune 10 Senior Executive, Board Director and Leadership Consultant, and Thomas N. O’Connor, Esq., Co-Founder and President of Baystate Wealth Management, LLC.

“We are thrilled to welcome Rafael and Tom to the Board of Directors,” said MGCC Board Chair Nam Pham. “They are not only business leaders with great experience but have a desire for public service. We are grateful for their help.”

MGCC is a quasi-public corporation of the Commonwealth working to create and preserve jobs at Massachusetts small businesses, women and minority owned businesses, and to promote economic development in Gateway Cities, underserved and, low and moderate income communities.

Mr. Diaz-Granados brings significant business experience and leadership skills to MGCC having successfully led multi-billion dollar country P&L’s, and growing, restructuring and optimizing international businesses. Mr. Diaz-Granados served in several regional and country executive roles for General Electric (GE) between 2000-2014. He's been actively investing in early stage companies since 2009, providing operating advice in the private equity space and guiding entrepreneurial leaders in strategic business development. Prior to GE, he focused on law at O’Melveny & Myers in New York and Covington & Burling and the US Securities & Exchange Commission in Washington D.C. Currently, Mr. Diaz-Granados helps Cetan Investments clients solve their most pressing leadership needs and serves as Vice-Chairman of the Board of the Latino Corporate Directors Education Foundation. He is a graduate of both Georgetown University and Harvard University. He resides in Hopkinton with his wife Sonja and their three children.

Thomas N. O’Connor, Esq.

As President of Baystate Wealth Management, LLC, baystatewealth.com, Mr. O’Connor is charged with overseeing and developing the business. After nearly 30 years of practicing law, Mr. O’Connor retired from Hale and Dorr of Boston, MA to co-found a federally registered investment advisory firm, which he sold in 2008. Shortly thereafter, he joined Baystate and began assisting with the firm as it built-out its wealth management platform. He graduated cum laude from St. Lawrence University and cum laude from Albany Law School of Union University. Mr. O’Connor resides in Boston with his wife Julie and currently serves on the Board of the Baystate Financial Charitable Foundation, is active with the Friends of Special Olympics on the North Shore and with the ALS Association Massachusetts Chapter.
