Esther Schlorholtz To Serve as Interim President & CEO of Mass Growth Capital Corporation
Massachusetts Growth Capital Corporation announced today the appointment of Esther Schlorholtz as the organization’s Interim President & CEO. Schlorholtz brings more than 40 years of community development experience in banking, the nonprofit sector and government to the role.
Schlorholtz was Director of Community Investment and Senior Vice President of Boston Private Bank & Trust Company for more than 26 years prior to her retirement in 2021. There, she was responsible for overseeing the bank’s Community Reinvestment Act (CRA) programs; services in Massachusetts and California for first-time homebuyers; lending for small business, affordable housing, and community development clients; and the bank’s philanthropic giving programs. During Schlorholtz’s tenure, the bank was rated “outstanding” for its CRA regulatory performance by federal and state banking regulators.
Schlorholtz was a founding board member of the Massachusetts Growth Capital Corporation. Appointed in 2010 by Governor Deval Patrick, and subsequently by Governor Charlie Baker, she served as vice chair of the board for several years and chaired the board’s credit committee. Currently, she is chair of the Newton Fair Housing Committee, a board member of the Franklin Square House Foundation, and serves on 2Life Communities’ real estate development and finance committees.
She was a long serving member of the Citizens’ Housing and Planning Association (CHAPA) board of directors and is currently a member of CHAPA’s Fair Housing Committee.
Schlorholtz previously served on the board of Metro Housing|Boston for more than 20 years. She participated on the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston Racial Wealth Gap Task Force and its Capital and Collaboration working group; chaired the board of the Massachusetts Community & Banking Council, now called the Partnership for Financial Equity, and co-chaired its Economic Development and Affordable Housing committees.
Schlorholtz has received numerous awards for outstanding community service, including Banker & Tradesman’s Community Hero, CREW Boston Suzanne King Public Service, the Lawyers Clearinghouse Leadership Award, Casa Esperanza’s Hope in Action, the Massachusetts Association of Community Development Corporations’ Jeffrey Graham Award, the Jewish Alliance for Law & Social Action Distinguished Leadership & Lifetime awards, Whittier Street Health Center’s Women for Whittier, and a top 10 banker by Boston Women’s Business. She is a graduate of Harvard University, where she received a bachelor of arts, and Tufts University, where she received a master of arts in urban and environmental policy.
